今回取り上げる表現は、従位接続詞の"albeit"/ɔːlbíːɪt/です。『ウィズダム英和辞典』(第３版、三省堂)を引いたところ、「…だけれども(although)；たとえ…でも(even though)」とありました。

LDOCEでは、“used to add information that reduces the force or importance of what you have just said”と定義されていました。

“although”は名詞、形容詞、従属節を導く一方で、“albeit”は名詞、形容詞だけを導く表現です。また、辞書では“albeit”の方がよりformalな表現であるということも載っていました。そういえば以前，先生が論文などでは「そうはいっても」を表すときに，とても力強く響くのでよく用いられると話されていたことを思い出しました。(Blue Sky)
