　ISが弱体化しているという考えをオバマ大統領が明かしました。いまだに脅威であることに変わりはありませんが，連合軍は着実にISの勢力を削いでいるようです。記事の中で気になった表現は"peg back"です。Oxford Dictionaries.comには"Reduce or eradicate the lead of an opponent in a contest"と定義されております。「相手のリードを縮める」という意味になるようです。Oxford Dictionaries.comでは"peg someone back"という見出しで紹介されておりますが，例文をみると"they were pegged back by an equalizer from Jameson"のように，今回同様受け身で使われております。(Ume)

Islamic State: Obama says group is weakening but still a threat

Mr Obama also said that IS "has not had a major successful offensive operation in Syria or Iraq in a full year".
While the militant group has been pegged back in those countries, it has carried out or claimed several high-profile attacks this year, such as in Iraq, France, Germany, Bangladesh and several other countries.
President Obama said it was important not to give in to fear.
"Isil can't defeat the United States of America or our Nato partners," he said, using an alternative acronym for IS.
