Japan-born ballerina wins prestigious award
MOSCOW — Japan-born Hannah O’Neill has won the Benois de la Danse prize for best ballerina, one of the world’s most prestigious awards for ballet, it was announced Tuesday at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow.
O’Neill, 23, belongs to the prestigious Paris Opera Ballet. She was born in Tokyo to a Japanese mother and is the second dancer from Japan to receive the award, following Mariko Kida who won in 2014 at the age of 30.
O’Neill was honored for her highly regarded performance of the leading role in the classic ballet “Paquita.”
