buzzcut, fade, close-cropped
前回取り上げたmohawk以外の髪形について調べてみました。
The good news? Styles captioned the photo "#littleprincesstrust" which is a charity in the UK that, according to its website, "provides wigs and hair pieces for children who suffer hair loss due to cancer treatment," (much like the USA-based Locks of Love). Which is pretty awesome.
The bad news? WE DON'T HAVE A PIC OF HIS NEW HAIRCUT. And so in the meantime, all we can do is imagine what he might look like now. Does he have a buzzcut? A mohawk? A fade? A crew cut? Did he buzz "1D FOREVER" into the back of his head?
We can only dream. Until he posts on Instagram again.
Anyways until then we'll follow the example of this 1D fan.
まず、buzzcutですが『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館）では「（米）丸刈り(crew cut)」とありました。LDOCEでも” American English a hair style that is very short, usually worn by men”と定義されています。
髪を切る際に使う道具が音を立てることからきているようです。
つづいてfadeです。動詞の「あせる、なくなる」などの意味から「坊主頭」かと思いましたが、インターネットで髪形を調べると坊主は坊主でも、もみあげからてっぺんへ向かって髪の毛を残す髪形のことで、よくブラック系の人がしているヘアスタイルのことだそうです。
ちなみに、坊主頭はa close-cropped (short-cropped) hair, a shaven headと『ウィズダム和英辞典』（三省堂）に記載されております。同時に授業で僧のことをbonzeというのを習ったことを思い出しました。
今回出てきたcropはお馴染みの「収穫物」ではなく、動詞の「（頭髪など）を短く切る」（『ジーニアス英和辞典』（第五版、大修館書店）、”to cut someone's hair short “(LDOCE)の意味で使われています。(flyingbird)
