ISHINOMAKI, Miyagi — A couple in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture, who lost their two primary-school aged children in the tsunami that followed the Great East Japan Earthquake have found making bear figures out of a handkerchief they manufacture at their sewing company as has helped them way to deal with the tragedy.
The couple are encouraged by e-mails from customers who buy the bear-shaped handkerchief, which was sparked by a business order from a regular trading partner. They have produced about 150,000 bears so far and also provided jobs for local women who have joined the production.
