保守的ユダヤ教の人たちにとって、今年のpassover(過ぎ越しの祭り)は例年と少し違うようです。

Good morning on this mishmash Monday.
Why is this Passover different from all other Passovers?
The holiday has generally forbidden followers — including more than one million Jews in New York City alone — to eat cookies, bread, rice, beans and other products during the observance period.
But this year, the Conservative Jewish movement lifted its 800-year ban on legumes and rice after three influential rabbis argued to allow them.
And many kosher markets are now selling products they’ve never carried before.
At the Kosher Marketplace on the Upper West Side, caramel popcorn now lines the shelves alongside the more traditional matzo squares and jars of spicy pickles.
The shop’s other new items include chickpeas, hummus and peanut-butter-dusted corn puffs called “Bamba” — a hot commodity among children. “These are things that we never would’ve carried before, and I think the response has been good,” said Jack Kaufman, who owns the shop with his parents.
今回取り上げるのは、"kosher markets"です。
"market"は皆さんご存知のとおり、「(スーパー)マーケット、市場、…屋(店)、食料雑貨店」などの意味があります。
"kosher"はどうでしょうか。
まず、LDOCEで調べてみると、1."kosher food is prepared according to Jewish law"

3."(informal) something that is kosher is honest, legal, or really what it is claimed to be:"とありました。
『ジーニアス英和辞典』(大修館)第4版でも、1.「(ユダヤ教)[食物、特に肉が]<掟に従って処理した>適法な、清浄な」2.「(店などが)適法の食品を販売している」とありました。
つまり"kosher market"は、「ユダヤ教徒向けの食料品店」となります。
昔観た映画で、ユダヤ教徒向けのレストランやカフェが出てきたのを思い出しました。(Akim)
