三菱自動車が燃費試験で不正行為をしていたことが明らかとなりました。実際よりも燃費をよく見せる不正を行っていたようです。

MMC fuel mileage data found to be falsified

TOKYO (Jiji Press) — Mitsubishi Motors Corp. revealed Wednesday that it has dressed up data on fuel efficiency for four mini vehicle models, affecting a total of 625,000 units.

The four models are the company’s eK Wagon and eK Space, plus the Dayz and Dayz Roox supplied to Nissan Motor Co. for sale under its own brand.

At a press conference, Mitsubishi Motors President Tetsuro Aikawa made an apology to customers and other stakeholders for the misconduct.

“Fuel efficiency tests conducted by Nissan showed gaps with the data we had reported [to authorities],” Aikawa said. The differences are believed to be around 5 to 10 percent, he said.

Mitsubishi will stop production and supply of the four mini vehicles and investigate whether its vehicles for overseas markets have been subject to such data manipulation, according to the company chief.

The automaker said it has sold a total of 157,000 units of the eK Wagon and eK Space, while supplying 468,000 units of the Dayz and Dayz Roox to Nissan.

『ライトハウス英和辞典』（第5版　研究社）で調べてみますと、自動詞では「1正装する（for）、2（特に子どもが）仮装する、（as, in）」という意味があり、他動詞では「1（…）に仮装させる（as, in）、2（話など）をおもしろく（受け入れやすく）する、粉飾する」という意味があることが分かりました。LDOCEで調べてみますと ”to wear special clothes for fun, or to put special clothes on someone” という意味が載っていました。そのまま直訳で訳すと意味がおかしくなりますが、ここではデータがより良く見えるように偽った行為を、「良く見せる」という点で「正装する」ということばで表していると考えられます。

過去にも不正が発覚していたこともあり、消費者の信頼はまた失われる結果となりました。（aqua）
