喜劇王の異名を持つチャップリンの記念館が、スイスにオープンしました。
Chaplin museum opens in Switzerland
A museum dedicated to the legendary comic actor and director Charlie Chaplin has drawn thousands of fans to a village in Switzerland.
Chaplin's World opened to the public in the Swiss village of Corsier-sur-Vavey on Sunday, about 40 years after he passed away.
The museum honors Chaplin's life and achievements. It features a newly built exhibition hall and a refurbished manor house where the comedian spent his last 25 years.
The manor house allows visitors to see the living room and study in which Chaplin worked. The exhibition hall features a replica film studio and costumes.
One visitor to the museum said he and his son became Chaplin fans after learning of his dedication to his work.
Hiroyuki Ono, the Director of the Chaplin Society of Japan, said the museum is impressive in that it provides insights into Chaplin's private life as well as his artistic works.
The museum's organizers say about 2,000 people came to the museum on the first day. They expect more than 300,000 visitors per year.

今回取り上げるのは、”refurbish”です。『ウィズダム英和辞典』（第３版、三省堂）を引いたところ、主にイギリスで用いられ、「〈建物・部屋など〉を一新する、改装する」という意味があることが分かりました。一般家庭では「リフォーム」に相当するでしょうか。接頭辞の”re-“を除いた”furbish”は、「…を磨いて[研いで]ぴかぴかにする；〈古くなったもの〉を再生する（up）」という意味だそうです（『ウィズダム英和辞典』第３版、三省堂）。
Collins Dictionary.comで”refurbish”は、 “(transitive) to make neat, clean, or complete, as by renovating, re-equipping, or restoring”と定義されていました。
チャップリンが実際に住んでいた邸宅を利用した博物館ということでも、注目を浴びています。機会があれば、訪れてみたいなと思いました。（Blue Sky）
