Ume先輩のポストとだぶります。日本では熊本で起きた大地震の話題で持ちきりですが、その裏で日本時間１７日、南米エクアドルでもM7.7の大地震が発生しました。
Quake kills 28 in Ecuador
Ecuador's vice president says a powerful earthquake that struck near the country's coast on Saturday has claimed 28 lives so far.
A resident of the country's largest city of Guayaquil Tweeted a video of a collapsed overpass crushing vehicles and police rushing to rescue. Guayaquil is about 300 kilometers south of the epicenter.
Jorge Glas said he is mobilizing military and police to clarify the extent of the damage as soon as possible.
The US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said the magnitude 7.7 earthquake occurred near Ecuador's northern coast at 23:59 UTC. The quake's focus was about 10 kilometers deep.
The center issued a warning saying tsunami as high as one meter could hit the coast of Ecuador, but it lifted the alert 3 hours later. It said the tsunami threat has now largely passed.

今回注目する表現は、”lifted the alert”です。”lift”は「持ち上げる」という意味がよく知られていますが、ここではあてはまりません。『ウィズダム英和辞典』（第３版、三省堂）を引いたところ、第５義に「〈制限・禁止など〉を解く、解禁する」という意味がありました。
Macmillan Dictionary.comには “[TRANSITIVE] [OFTEN PASSIVE] to officially end a rule or law that stopped someone from doing something”と定義され、
They’re hoping to get the ban lifted by the end of the month.
という例文が示されていました。
これらの意味から、今回の記事は「太平洋津波センターは、エクアドル沿岸部の津波警報を解いた。」と解釈できるのではないかと思います。（Blue Sky）
