Kabuki actor Ichikawa Somegoro will star in a new production, themed on a mythical lion, in Las Vegas in May. The show will follow a successful kabuki production in the U.S. entertainment hub last year and is in line with Shochiku Co.’s strategy of presenting more performances overseas.
Usually, classical kabuki plays are performed overseas — the first was in the former Soviet Union in 1928 — but the centerpiece of Shochiku’s strategy is to stage new works.
