今回取り上げるのは、“taxiway”という表現です。この単語をLDOCEで調べてみると、“the surface which an aircraft drives on to get to and from the runway”と定義されていました。さらに『ジーニアス英和辞典』（大修館書店）でも確認してみると、「（飛行機の）誘導路」と記載されていました。飛行機が離着陸時に自力で誘導路を移動することを「タキシング」といい、それを行うための滑走路ということから“taxiway”となりました。また、この単語は“TWY”と省略して表記することもあるようです（「英辞郎 on the WEB」）。(ninetails)
