今年もズボンをはかずに地下鉄に乗車するイベント “No Pants Subway Ride”が開催されました。

Hundreds of cheeky travellers across the globe rode trains, tubes and subways today with no trousers on as a part of the 'No Pants Subway Ride' day.

The event began in 2002 in New York City with seven members of the improvisational group, Improv Everywhere, known for their flash mobs, boarding the subway without trousers. By 2006, 150 people had joined the fun, feeling the draft as they rode the train without trousers.

Ten years on, the fad has spread to countries like Germany, Czech Republic and The UK, proving the trouserless train ride is still alive and well.

'No Pants Subway Ride' is always planned in winter, and last year 4,000 people participated in NYC alone.

'The idea behind No Pants is simple: Random passengers board a subway car at separate stops in the middle of winter without pants. The participants behave as if they do not know each other, and they all wear winter coats, hats, scarves, and gloves. The only unusual thing is their lack of pants,' Improv Everywhere's website reads.

今回取り上げるのは、“the draft”（cf. Br. 綴り　draught ）です。

“draft”をLDOCEで調べてみると、“cold air that moves through a room and that you can feel”と定義されていました。『ジーニアス英和辞典』（大修館書店）で確認してみると、「すきま風」などの意味が見つかりました。ズボンを脱いで地下鉄の乗ると，すきま風が直接あたり，さぞかし寒いものと思います。

ただし，“feel the draft”で，「歓迎されていないように感じる、冷たくあしらわれているように感じる」（"to sense that one is being rejected; to sense that someone is cool toward one, possibly for racial reasons"--McGraw-Hill Dictionary of American Idioms and Phrasal Verbs）という意味もあるのですが，ここではどうでしょうか。(ninetails)
