buffet v. 復習

今回取り上げる表現は、“buffet”です。この表現を見て、「ビュッフェ」を最初に思い浮かびましたが、動詞で用いられるとどのような意味になるのか。『ジーニアス英和辞典第４版』（大修館書店）を確認してみると、「（風・波などが船）をもむ、激しく揺さぶる」、「（不幸・運命・乗り物などが人）をもてあそぶ」と記載されていました。さらに、英語の定義で意味を比較してみると、Merriam-Websterには、“to hit (something) with great force many times”と載っていました。英語の定義と大きく異なることが分かります。ここでは、「批評や自ら招いた傷で打ちのめされた」と訳されると思います。(Nao)
