Ritz-Carlton Tokyo receives bomb threat

The 5-star Ritz-Carlton Tokyo hotel received a bomb threat on Thursday morning, police said.

According to police, a man speaking rudimentary Japanese called the hotel at around 10 a.m. and said he had placed a bomb on one of the guest floors, Fuji TV reported. All guests were evacuated for about 90 minutes while police searched the floors but no explosive device was found.

Police said the caller, if found, faces a charge of forcible obstruction of business.
Christmas eve is one of the busiest days of the year for the hotel industry.

今回取り上げるのは“rudimentary”です。辞書には「初歩的な、基本的な（basic）；初期（段階）の、原始的な、未発達の；発育不全の；退化した」（『ジーニアス英和辞典第四版』）、“a rudimentary knowledge or understanding of a subject is very simple and basic”（LDOCE）という意味がありました。
