In the Metropolitan section this week, meet Soledad Barrio, star of the troupe Noche Flamenca, who has moved her family from Madrid to New York City. She is taking flamenco back to its earthy roots, and adding a dollop of hip-hop.
この表現は裏ゼミで先生が紹介されていました。もともとは「アイスクリームなどの固まり」を食べ物に加え("A large, shapeless mass of something, especially soft food"--Oxford Dictionaries online),味をspice upするときに使われていましたが,口語で比喩的に「元々あるものに何かを加える」ときに用いられるとのことです。ここではスペインの伝統的な舞踊 フラメンコの元々の形態にヒップホップ的要素を加えるという意味合いを表しています。(Inaho)
