comb through 復習

今回取り上げるのは"comb through"です。以前も取り上げられていたので復習となりますが、『ジーニアス英和辞典(大修館書店)』によると"comb"の原義は「歯の立ったもの」で、動詞で「くしでとかす」という意味がありますが、combだけでも「くまなく探す」という意味があるようですが、今回のように"through"とつながることで「徹底的に捜査する」という意味であることがわかりました。
以前取り上げられていたように"a fine-toothed comb"で「入念な調査」とも表すこともできます。(lua)
