今回取り上げるのは"bread-winning"です。『ジーニアス英和辞典(大修館書店)』によると、breadwinningという形では記載されていませんでしたが、breadwinner で「一家の出稼ぎ手、大黒柱」とありました。breadとwinningを分けて考えてみると、breadには「金」という意味もあり、bread and butter で生計という意味があるように、お金に関する語であることがわかりました。winningは動詞が変化した形なので、spouseとjobに続けると「生活費となるお金を稼ぐ配偶者または仕事」となるかと思います。
記事を読んで、子供との時間を多くするために行なった決断が結果として良いものであったのは本当に素晴らしいことだと思いました。その中でも犠牲にすることや必要な努力や苦悩もあったと思いますが、何が起こるかわからない中でも決断し、対応していける力が必要だと感じました。(lua)
