サウジアラビアにあるイスラム教の聖地メッカ近郊で２４日、大巡礼「ハッジ」の最中に発生した将棋倒しの事故で、死者が少なくとも７１７人、負傷者が８６３人と発表がありました。毎年行われるハッジで過去の中でも最悪規模の事故となりました。

And it posed yet another challenge for the country’s new leader, King Salman, who is already coping with low oil prices, a war in Yemen and an increasingly fierce rivalry with Iran.
