normecore

日本の若い女性の間でリュックが流行っているという記事を呼んでいたところ，冒頭のnormcoreという単語が気になったので調べてみました。
これは「標準(的な状態), 普通のこと」（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）を意味するnormに「核」を表す接尾辞の-coreが付いた造語。今回の記事にはthe unpretentious styleとあり，またファッションサイトVOGUEの記事などもあたってみた結果，意味は「ブランドなどを気にせず，全く飾り気のない，普通であること」と解釈しました。

normcoreはニューヨークを出発点として日本でも流行しつつあるようです。「ファッション」＝「個性」という考え方はもう過去のものなのでしょうか。（Koyamamoto）

Young women use backpacks for casual edge
TOKYO -- Normcore has hit Japan. A growing number of young women are sporting the unpretentious style -- a play on the word normal with the -core suffix. This has helped launch a backpack boom. Various designs are available, but two types of bags are particularly popular -- kuro gotsu (bulky black) and goku mini (super mini). The two styles make people look slightly "out of sync" or "loosened-up."
A group of four university students all carry bulky, square-style black backpacks. Shizuki Sensui, a 21-year-old who lives in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, has been using a Sabre backpack, which costs about 10,000 yen ($80.44).
