In April 2014, I received the first printed copy of a book I had written titled The Challenging Journey. But little did I know, the publication of my story would open the next chapter of my life.
Initially written for the family, it was a warts-and-all story about my experience with my husband Don’s 20-year battle with dementia.

今回取り上げる表現は “warts-and-all”です。そのまま解釈すると「いぼとすべて」ということになりますが、それでは意味が分かりません。G4（大修館）で確認してみますと「欠点も隠さずに、よいことも悪いこともありのままに」とありました。LODCEでは “including all the faults or unpleasant things”と書かれています。Online English Dictionaryで語源を調べてみたところ、 “Phrase warts and all "without concealment of blemishes" is attested from 1763, supposedly from Oliver Cromwell's instruction to his portrait painter.”とありました。以前にブログで取り上げられていた記事でも、17世紀の政治家Oliver Cromwellが画家に肖像画を描かせたとき，顔のイボも含めて何でも見た通りに描けと指示したことが由来とされていると先輩が書かれています。（Inaho）
