Naruse gets helping hand from Swallows hitters in win over Tigers
Yoshihisa Naruse threw his fifth straight quality start and won for the first time in over a month as the Tokyo Yakult Swallows defeated the Central League-leading Hanshin Tigers 6-4 on Wednesday night.
Naruse (3-7) allowed three runs on five hits and a walk over six innings to pick up his first win since May 28. The lefty allowed a pair of home runs, including a game-tying two-run shot by Ryutaro Umeno on an 0-2 pitch in the fourth inning, while striking out three.

The Swallows’ Mitch Dening broke the tie in the fifth with a bloop RBI single, and leadoff man Tetsuto Yamada drove in two big runs in the sixth with his 15th home run.
“bloop”を拾い上げます。手元の辞書(『G3』)では“blooper”「1.《米略式》大失敗、へま 2.《野球》テキサスヒット」を確認できたのですが、あいにく“bloop”それ自体は確認できなかったため、今回はネット検索に頼らせていただきました。Oxford dictionariesでは“1.Emit a short low-pitched noise. 2. Make a mistake 3. Hit (a ball) weakly or make (a hit) that lands just beyond the reach of the infielders”とありました。ここでは三つ目の、適当な訳をつけると「テキサスヒット(ポテン)ヒットを打つ」という意味で使われています。
ここから余談になります。“bloop”と検索をかけると、海中の、何やら巨大な生物の画像(イラスト)が出てきました。南米チリの沖合で発生原因不明の低周波音波(bloop)が観測され、その発生源がUMAなのでは、という説があるようです。その音量は、世界最大の動物シロナガスクジラの鳴き声よりも輪をかけて大きく、生物が発したものだとすると、その体躯は想像を絶する大きさになると言われています。この他にも、海洋では発生原因不明の音が何度か観測されているようです。ちなみに、観測された音声がyoutubeなどで簡単に聞くことができます。もしも暇があれば、調べてみると面白いかもしれません。(potter)
