内容は、ニューヨーク州の刑務所から脱獄した殺人犯が２８日、ニューヨーク州北部のカナダ国境近くで州警察に拘束されました。

拾い上げる英語表現は、“escapee”です。『ジーニアス英和辞典第４版』（大修館書店）によると、「脱走者、脱獄囚」とありました。見て分かる通り、“escape”「逃げる、脱出する」に“e”がついています。“escapee”の“ee”は、接尾語で、「［動詞の後で］〜される人、〜する人」の意味を持ちます。そこから、「逃げる人、脱出する人」から、「脱走者、脱獄者」となります。また、Longman Dictionary of Contemporary Dictionaryには、“someone who has escaped from somewhere”と記載されていました。ついに、脱獄者が拘束されて良かったです。(Nao)
