eradicate 復習
今年も汗をかく時期が訪れてきていますが、わたしが毎日のように使う制汗剤にも変化が起きていくようです。

記事を読んで気になったのは“eradicate”です。“eradicate”は「（雑草・貧困・犯罪などを）根絶（撲滅）する、根こそぎにする」とありました。「『ジーニアス英和辞典第4版』大修館書店」語源を調べてみると“radic-”が「根」であり、接頭辞の“e-”が付随して「根を外に出す」つまり「根絶する」となります。（Weblio英和辞典）調べてみると“radical”や“radix ”などがありました。また、LDOCE には、“to completely get rid of something such as a disease or a social problem”と記されています。（faith）
