Sam Smith has canceled his two performances in Japan after developing a hemorrhage on his vocal cords.
The 22-year-old British singer, who has maintained a punishing touring schedule amid a meteoric rise in his career, said he has been “vocally exhausted for a while now.
今回取り上げるのは、“a meteoric rise”です。以前にGP先輩が書かれているように、“meteoric”は「＜出世・発展などが＞急速な、めざましい」（『ジーニアス英和辞典第四版』大修館書店）という意味がありますので、「華々しいあっという間の出世」というような訳が出来ると思います。サム・スミスは2012年にあるバンドのゲストボーカルとして楽曲に参加した事で、名を挙げるようになったそうです。その後2015年にはグラミー賞で最多の４部門を受賞しました。調べてみると私より１歳年上で、あまり年齢が変わらないにも関わらず、こんなにも活躍されていると知り、驚きました。（Green）
