　ついに，アップルウォッチの仕様や価格が公表されました。iPhoneと連動させて使う場合が多いことから，これを所有しているユーザーが前提のようですね。記事の中で気になった表現は"pent-up demand"です。『Wisdom英和辞典第三版』（三省堂）のによると"pent-up"で「閉じ込められた, 幽閉された，鬱積した」などという意味がありました。"pent-up demand"は，「繰延(くりのべ)需要（商品などが入荷できずに需要が累積すること）」という訳が載っております。しかし，初めて聞く用語で意味がよく分かりませんでした。海外サイトに定義が書かれているので確認しました。

"A term used to describe one aspect of lagging consumer behavior in any given market. Economists use this term to explain the cyclical nature of the economy and a factor that drives a fast moving recovery from a recession. The theory holds that consumer demand never really disappears on an aggregate level. Buyers simply delay making purchases until they have the financial means to meet the price demanded by the seller. This creates a backlog of buyers on the market that is suddenly unleashed as recovery occurs."

　「需要というものは，実は景気の善し悪しにかかわらず一定であり，物が売れていない場合は，現在の売れるべき部分が将来に繰り延べられている」という考えが繰り延べ需要のようです。今回の記事では，アップルファンのユーザーの中には，どんな製品でもアップルの新製品を購入する人たちがいるので，その人々の需要を繰り延べ需要と呼んでいるようです。（Ume）

To provide many of its functions - including GPS tracking, receiving phone calls and transmitting messages - the Watch requires its owner to have an iPhone 5 or more recent Apple handset, limiting its potential audience.

Even so, one expert believes sales will be strong - at least initially.

"Apple will unquestionably sell millions of these watches because there's pent-up demand from the loyal super-fans who will buy almost any Apple product," said Ben Wood from the tech advisory firm CCS Insight.

"Even if this merely told the time they would deliver that first chunk of sales. But the challenge is how you get ordinary iPhone owners to buy the smartwatch, because to date consumers have been left wondering why they need them in their lives."
