Police in Japan are likely to send to prosecutors papers on a former local assembly member on suspicion of swindling public funds by submitting false reports on political fund activities. Former Hyogo Prefectural assembly member Ryutaro Nonomura gained international attention online for weeping during a news conference. Nonomura resigned from the assembly in July after coming under fire for dubious spending of funds allocated for political activities, including 195 daytrips in one year. The assembly in July filed a criminal complaint against Nonomura on suspicion of fraud and other charges.
