Upstate Couple Are Accused of Kidnapping Amish Sisters
The authorities said Friday night that they had arrested a couple in the abduction of two young Amish girls from their farm in upstate New York on Wednesday night, a crime that prompted an extensive search and national media attention.
The couple, Stephen Howells II, 39, and his girlfriend, Nicole Vaisey, 25, of Hermon, N.Y., were questioned by the police Friday night and were charged with kidnapping, according to Mary E. Rain, the St. Lawrence County district attorney.
