Tanaka helps Carp rally past Giants
Kosuke Tanaka keyed a six-run inning with a tie-breaking RBI single that boosted the Hiroshima Carp past the Yomiuri Giants 7-2 on Sunday in the finale of a three-game series at Tokyo Dome.
The Carp, who couldn’t protect a slim lead in Saturday’s game, rallied from two runs down to keep their hold on third place in the Central League.
Righty Yuya Fukui (2-1) got the win with seven innings of two-run ball.
“Fukui was working hard out there, and I just went up there looking to get a hit and help him out,”
Tanaka said in the postgame on-field interview. “I focused on making sure I didn’t strike out, and wanted to battle.”
