Overtime hours among employees at the "Sukiya" beef bowl chain topped 100 hours a month, well over the "karoshi" (death from overwork) line set by the government, a survey by an independent panel has shown.
According to a report released by the third-party committee on July 31, average overtime work hours among 418 non-managerial employees at Sukiya restaurants reached 109 hours in March this year, well over the monthly 45 extra hours set in the chain's labor management agreement.
