エジプトの像が，約22億円で落札されました。オークションは英国のノーサンプトン美術館の建設費の基金として使われるために行われました。しかし，イギリス芸術協議会やエジプト特任大使はこのような行為を批判しております。記事の名で気になった単語は"accreditation"です。『Wisdom英和辞典第三版（三省堂）』によると「（公式の）認定・認可」などという意味がありました。Oxford Dictionariesによると"Give credit to (someone) for something"と出てきました。何かに信認を与えるということですね。ちなみに"ambassador"の定義には，"An accredited diplomat sent by a state as its permanent representative in a foreign country"であり"accredit"が使われております。骨董品を売却して基金を稼ぐ行為は，ノーサンプトン美術館の認可されている立場を失わせることになると警告しました。歴史的な文化財が個人のものになるのは反対意見も多いと思います。（Ume）

Egyptian statue Sekhemka sells for nearly £16m

A 4,000-year-old Egyptian statue expected to raise about £6m has sold for £15.76m at Christie's of London.

Northampton Borough Council auctioned the Sekhemka limestone statue to help fund a £14m extension to Northampton Museum and Art Gallery.

However, Arts Council England had warned the council its museum could lose its accreditation status.

The Egyptian ambassador to Britain said the council should have handed the statue back if it did not want it.
