'Kazu' Miura to visit Brazil as JFA ambassador
Former Japan team ace striker Kazuyoshi Miura will visit Brazil during the World Cup Finals as goodwill ambassador for the Japan Football Association.
Miura, also known as "Kazu," told reporters on Friday that he hopes to reconfirm the friendly ties between Japanese and Brazilian soccer organizations and serve as a bridge between the two.
Miura began his professional career in Brazil at the age of 15. He went on to gain star status back in Japan, where he remains a pro at the age of 47.
In Brazil, Miura will watch Japan's first match against Cote d'Ivoire in Recife on June 14th and attend an event to root for the national team 3 days later. Miura says he has many fond memories of Recife, where he once played during his stint in Brazil.
He said the current national team has carried on in the spirit of him and other predecessors, and that he's looking forward to watching the members play.
