(Koyamamoto)

'Frozen' on track to become 3rd-highest-grossing film in Japan
TOKYO —Disney’s massive blockbuster animated film “Frozen” (released in Japan as “Anna and the Snow Queen”) is on track to become the 3rd-highest-grossing film in Japan.
The film has surpassed 20 billion yen at the box office since its March release in Japan and has held the No. 1 position for 11 consecutive weeks.
Currently, “Frozen” is in 4th place in the all-time high box office rankings behind Studio Ghibli’s “Spirited Away” (30.4 billion yen), “Titanic” (26.2 billion yen) and “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” (20.3 billion yen), TV Asahi reported Wednesday. “Frozen” follows with 20.03 billion yen and is expected to pass “Harry Potter” sometime in June.
According to the Motion Picture Producers Association of Japan, as of May 26, a total of 15,742,141 people in Japan have been to see “Frozen,” which holds the No. 1 spot for most successful animated Disney film ever, not only Japan, but across the globe, earning $1.2 billion in global ticket sales.
The dubbed Japanese version has also proven particularly popular. Sayaka Kanda, 27, who is the daughter of singer Seiko Matsuda, provides the voice for the protagonist in the Japanese version.
