Yoshida's father dies behind wheel
Eikatsu Yoshida, the father of three-time Olympic wrestling champion Saori Yoshida, died Tuesday after suffering a brain hemorrhage while driving in Mie Prefecture, police reported.
Yoshida, 61, was found unconscious behind the wheel of his idle car on the Ise Expressway around 7:15 a.m. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was declared dead of a brain hemorrhage.
According to police, Yoshida left his home in Tsu, at about 6:30 a.m. He was headed for Shigakukan University in Obu, Aichi Prefecture, where his daughter trains with the university team, when the accident occurred. Yoshida himself was a former national champion wrestler and ran a wrestling club where Saori started the sport at 3.
