US F-15 makes emergency landing at Kadena
A US Air Force F-15 fighter jet on Tuesday made an emergency landing at the US Kadena Air Base in Okinawa. Details of the incident are not known. An eyewitness says the plane's cockpit canopy was missing when the plane landed. NHK video footage shows the plane on the tarmac without a canopy.
A USAF colonel told NHK that information provided by the base says it came off during a training exercise over the sea. The USAF told Okinawa's prefectural government that 54 F-15 jets are stationed at Kadena. US fighter pilots routinely conduct flight and aerial combat training off the main Okinawa Island.

canopyについては以前にも書きましたが、一般には、南の高級リゾート地にあるような「ベッドなどにある装飾用の天蓋」のことを意味します。これはこの単語の元々の意味、「羽虫よけ」に由来します。戦闘機の場合は操縦席の上をまたぐような透明の「円蓋、カバー」を指すと思われます。事実とするとその円蓋はどこに行ったのでしょうか。（Shou-VR*）
