It is 27 degrees outside. Perfect biking weather.
If it has been a tough month for the city’s snowplows, then it’s been even tougher for Citi Bikes.
The new bike-share system has endured a brutal first winter, and it shows.
So far in February, Citi Bikers have taken only about 7,500 trips a day. That’s down from nearly 10,000 a day in January, which was a pretty nasty time to be outside, too.
And compare that with over 40,000 on nice days in the summer and fall.
But the bikers persist.
Even on Feb. 13, when it snowed nearly 10 inches, Citi Bikers took 900 trips totaling nearly 6,000 miles — almost like a ride to California and back in a blizzard.
persistは「固執する」「信念を主張する」から「生き残る」といった意味を持つ多義語ですが、ここでは「めげない、負けない」という訳がはまりそうです（しつこさがこの言葉の特徴ですもんね！per-「通して」sist「立つ」）。これは日本での英語の学習には一番必要なことかも。
