New York Today: Live Snowstorm Updates

Good afternoon on this frigid Friday. New York City public schools are closed.

6.4 inches of snow has fallen on Central Park, more in other boroughs. It was 10 degrees in New York City this morning — about the same as in Fairbanks, Alaska. Winds are gusting to 25 miles an hour and the wind chill is below zero.

Here’s what else you need to know:

• The snow has stopped, but the wind will continue to blow it around, limiting visibility and causing drifts.

• Mayor Bill de Blasio urged New Yorkers to stay inside. “If you do have to travel, take mass transit,” he said at a late morning news conference. “Yes, there will be some delays, but it will be safe.”

mass transitはそのままだと「大量輸送機関」ですが(というか日本語の方が英語の直訳)、takeの目的語となる場合、日本語では「公共交通機関を利用する」の方がしっくりときます。(UG)
