S. Korea follows China, expands air defense zone in East China Sea
A spokesman for the South Korean Ministry of National Defense said the expanded South Korean air defense zone will take force on Dec. 15.
The expanded zone covers the airspace over the South Korean-claimed Iedo reef in the East China Sea, overlapping the airspace in that area under the air defense zone China established on Nov. 23.
The submerged reef, which lies within the overlapping economic zones of China and South Korea, is also claimed by China.
The airspace over Iedo also lies within Japan's own air defense zone.
