frenemies #2

もう一本！標題の言葉は今日のワークショップで出てきたものです。以前にもブログにアップしましたが、frenemiesはfriendとenemyが合わさった造語で、「親しくするように見せかけて、相手をおとしいれようとする人」を指します。まさか授業マネージメントのあり方をめぐるパネル（英語）でこの言葉が飛び出してくるとは！なんともはや…。前回とは違う用例をひとつ、挙げておきます。（UG）

Why do women have frenemies?

Author Lucinda Rosenfeld's latest book is called "I'm So Happy For You: A Novel About Best Friends" and is about the love/hate relationship that exists among some female friends.

While doing promotion for the book, she wrote an essay for The New York Post called "Why Women Are Frenemies" in which she implies that the root of most female frenemy relationships is jealousy.

I read her book and thought it was a fantastic, fun, and engaging read, but I'm a little resistant to the notion that all women engage in these "frenemy"-type relationships. I especially don't know that I believe that if they DO have them, it all comes down to being jealous.
