The New York TimesのBMWのi3に関する記事から自動車用語であるdrive trainを拾います。
driveには「（自動車などの）駆動」（『スーパーアンカー英和辞典』第4版，学研教育出版）という意味があり，またtrainには「（歯車などの）列」（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）という意味があります。手持ちの辞書ではここまでの記載しか見られませんでしたが，「列」というイメージからtrainは「機械や装置一式」と類推することができます。さらにウェブ上でdrive trainは「〔車などの〕動力伝達装置，駆動系」と訳されていました（英辞郎 on the WEB）。
