日本で最初のトーキー映画が作られた蒲田を、再び映画の街へと復活させようという取り組みに関する記事からです。

"tinsel"とは、クリスマスの装飾などに使われる「（衣装などの安っぽい装飾に使う）ぴかぴか光る金属の薄片」(『ランダムハウス英和大辞典』)のことですが、そのうわべだけのきらびやかさから、映画の都Hollywoodを指す俗語として"Tinseltown"と語が生まれたようです。(Sy)

Kamata eyes rebirth as Japan Tinseltown

The silver screen will be making a comeback in a big way to Tokyo’s Kamata district, once known as a cinema town and where Japan’s first talkie was made.

Kamata, in Tokyo’s Ota Ward, once hosted a plethora of movie theaters in the years shortly after the end of World War II, but those days have long gone as one cinema after another closed its shutters.
