15日京都，福知山市の花火大会で起きた爆発により重軽傷を含む59人がけがをし，花火大会を運営していた地元の商工会議所が会見を開きました。
「商工会議所」は私の勤務している商業高校でも頻繁に出くわす言葉。記事ではchamber of commerceと表現されており，辞書にも同様の形で「商工会議所」とありました（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）。chamberは「部屋」という意味の単語で，加えて「議院, 議会, 集会場, 会館」という意味があります。ちなみに同辞書には「トイレ, 洗面所」という意味も俗語表現としてあることが載せられていました。（Koyamamoto）

Kyoto fireworks festival blast probed
KYOTO – The explosion that ripped through a row of food stalls at a summer fireworks festival Thursday evening in Kyoto Prefecture left 59 people injured, firefighters and police said Friday.
… The local chamber of commerce, which organized the festival, said other propane gas cylinders in the stalls may have exploded. Local residents said they heard more than one explosion.
