ご当地ゆるキャラの人気ナンバー１を決める「総選挙」が東京都内で行われ、千葉県船橋市の非公認ゆるキャラ「ふなっしー」が優勝を決めました。はじめたご本人はまさに天にも昇る重いでしょう（全部、個人支出なのかな？）。
Mascot contest to boost retail sales
Designing a mascot to promote a community has become popular in Japan, and the competition is heating up. About 500 mascots entered the so-called "General Election for Local Characters" on Tuesday. The contest is sponsored by the Japan Department Stores Association. The winner was chosen from seven finalists. It's the popular mascot "Funassy" promoted by a resident of the city of Funabashi near Tokyo.
The jaunty little character is loved by the community. Coming in second is the mascot of Okazaki in Aichi Prefecture, Okazaemon. Koto-chan of Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture, came in third. The three characters will appear in events at department stores nationwide. Association officials hope they will help boost sales. Local governments and private companies in Japan have been using mascots to promote their products and activities.

jauntyには「〈人・態度など〉陽気な，朗らかな」、「元気のいい，はつらつとした、気取った」という意味がありますが、ふなっしーはそのらしくない機敏な動きから「元気キャラ」とも呼ばれているので、ここは「元気いっぱいの」あたりの訳でしょうか。ともあれ、ふなっしーよかったね。（Haramii）
