動植物などの自然とのふれ合いについて書かれたthe Japan Newsの記事から英語表現を拾います。動詞のtrainは様々な意味を持ち，「訓練する」という意味の他に，これまでにも「〈重い物を〉引きずる」という意味が採り上げられています（『プログレッシブ英和中辞典』小学館）。

Nature in Short / Natural world always provides abundance of surprises
The natural world is always full of little surprises that tickle and delight. I always keep a sharp eye out no matter where I am. These natural surprises can be just as plentiful in urban and suburban areas as in the mountains or countryside.
For example, one day last week I was walking through a suburban residential area, on my way to a meeting, when I passed by a house where the owners had planted some vines in a long container. The vines were trained on a high trellis, and functioned to completely shade the house’s front entranceway from the hot noonday sun. I could see from the leaves and the small yellow flowers that the vines were bitter melon, usually called goya in Japanese. I expected to see the familiar cucumber-shaped warty green fruits, but was shocked to discover a bright orange fruit oozing blood-red seeds.
