Death Valley asks visitors not to fry eggs

Officials at the Death Valley national park, one of the hottest places in the world, are calling on visitors not to fry eggs in the park.

The area straddles the western US states of California and Nevada. It is famous for registering a temperature of 56.7 degrees Celsius, which is the highest recording in the world.

In recent weeks it has been gripped by a heat wave. Temperatures have exceeded 50 degrees every day.



To demonstrate how hot it can get, park employees posted a video showing how to fry an egg in a pan placed on the ground.

 The video clip went viral and attracted visitors keen to repeat the feat. However, instead of using fry pans, they tried to cook the eggs directly on the ground.

Officials say the park has now become littered with egg shells and cartons.

In a message released online, they complained they have been busy cleaning up the mess.

 The message advises people who want to try the stunt to use a frying pan and dispose of the trash.
