Britons betting on royal baby arrival

The imminent arrival of a royal baby is creating a betting boom in Britain. People are placing wagers on everything from the baby's name to the future choice of university.



Prince William and his wife Kate are expecting their first child soon. A bookmaker company says betting is up more than 30 percent from the time of the couple's wedding.



In addition to the baby's arrival date, hair color and name, punters can guess which university he or she may attend and even the name of the first person on a date.



The baby's name is attracting the most wagers. Popular choices for a girl include Charlotte, Alexandra and Diana, after the prince's late mother. Alexandra is the middle name of Queen Elizabeth.



An official at the bookmaker explains that punters are wondering how the modern royal couple will raise their child in a family with long-held traditions to respect, and this is making the betting more interesting.
