Party heads lock horns over growth
Party leaders promoted their respective growth strategies in their street campaigns in various parts of the country Friday, a day after the official campaign period for the House of Councillors election kicked off.
Growth strategy in the form of measures to revitalize the sluggish national economy is the biggest point of contention in the vote, set for July 21.
The ruling Liberal Democratic Party and its coalition partner New Komeito call for achieving growth through corporate tax cuts and incentives and regulatory relaxation, while the opposition parties emphasize the need for wealth redistribution to ordinary citizens and bold regulatory easing.
