注目するのは、heartlandです。
調べたところ、意味は「（経済・政治などの）中心地域」です。
今回被害を受けたオクラホマ州をは合衆国の経済を活発にしている州の一つです。
詳しく調べてみると「オクラホマ州は天然ガス、石油および農業の生産高が高く、また航空機、エネルギー、通信およびバイオテクノロジーに経済の基盤がある。国内でも最大級に経済成長率が高く、一人当たり収入成長率と、州総生産の成長率では国内トップクラスである。オクラホマシティ市とタルサ市が州経済の中心となり、両都市圏に州人口の60％近くが住んでいる。」とありました（ウィキペディア参照）。
