今回は記事のタイトルの一部、carve outという表現に注目したいと思います。過去にも先輩がブログで取り上げておられますが、cf.http://d.hatena.ne.jp/A30/20110803/1312382127 辞書を引いてみると、carve A out[out A]「A〈地位・名声など〉を得る，築く；A〈運命・人生など〉を切り開く」(『ウィズダム英和辞典　第二版』三省堂)という意味になります。また、Wiktionaryには"To create (a reputation, chance, role, rank, career, victory) by hard work."と定義されています。
記事のタイトルでは、地位や名声などではなくdowntime「休養期間」(『ウィズダム英和辞典　第二版』三省堂)がcarve outの目的語として使われています。「時間を作り出す，捻り出す」という様な意味でしょうか。
