I’m tightwad and people know it. Should I change?
Dear Troubleshooter:
I’m a divorced man in my 40s. There can be no doubt, I exceptionally tightfisted.
I know it, other people know it, and sometimes they even mention it.
Although people call me cheap, I like to think I live a frugal life. However, these days, I begin to suspect that my stinginess is misplaced.
My motto is life is “stinginess is a virtue,” and my tendency toward it has been intensifying recently.
For example, I take good care of my things. I purchased a commuter pass case when I started working 25 years ago and still use it. The same can be said about most of the things I own.
This is part of my personality, so I can’t change easily. As my only family are my elderly parents, I don’t think it’s a big deal either way.
When people call me a miser, I take it as praise. But is it good for me to continue to be a skinflint?
