out of the loop #4

明日はTake Your Child to Work Dayです。

Final Word: Can I take someone else's child to work?
If only Craig Wilson had kids, he wouldn't brag and wouldn't hover.

Tomorrow is Take Your Child to Work Day. I don't have a child. I could borrow one, I suppose, but it's not the same as having your own. I feel like single people must feel on Valentine's Day. Out of the loop. Not a player.
They didn't have Take Your Child to Work Day when I was young. Just as well. I wouldn't have had anywhere to go. My father was a farmer. I saw him at work every day. No going into the office to see what he did. He worked in the orchards. It all seemed pretty straightforward to me.

今回扱うのはout of the loopという表現です。loopには「(網・ひもなどでつくる)輪、」などの意味がありますが、out of the loopで「《略式》権力の中枢からはずれて、重要な情報の外に置かれて」という意味になります。『(ジーニアス英和辞典 第4版)大修館書店』

Take Your Child to Work Dayとは、毎年4月の第4木曜日にカナダやアメリカで行われる子供を職場に連れて行く日のことをいいます。子供が両親の職場を見ることができるというのはとても良いことだと思いました。(Jakie)
